Inappropriate behavior
With inappropriate behavior, we mean behavior that is experienced as transgressive or hurtful by the other person. The tricky part is that we don't all have the same boundaries. What one person experiences as funny or desirable, the other finds hurtful or transgressive. By talking to each other, setting limits and respecting them, unwanted behavior in the workplace is minimized. In our organization, we strive for a socially safe work environment, where everyone can be themselves.
Bullying is a form of aggression directed at an individual, with the intent to repeatedly cause physical, social, and/or psychological harm. This can occur physically, via social media, verbally, or non-verbally.
Bullying is unacceptable. We want you to feel safe at all times.
Speak up if you see bullying or if you are being bullied yourself. You can share your story with a confidential advisor.
Discrimination occurs when people are treated unequally, disadvantaged, or excluded based on prejudice or specific characteristics (origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability). Discrimination is prohibited in the Netherlands.
Equal treatment and appreciation for who you are is what we stand for. We strive for a culture where everyone feels comfortable being open and addressing one another regarding unwanted behavior or inappropriate remarks.
Would you like to discuss this topic with a confidential advisor? Please contact VP-Nederland.
Sexual misconduct includes any form of sexually oriented behavior, comment, or advance that is experienced as unwanted by the other person. Examples include: unwanted touching or remarks, sending or sharing unwanted sexually explicit messages or photos, blackmailing someone with sexually explicit messages or photos, sexual assault, and rape. Personal boundaries are different for everyone.
We want everyone to feel safe and empowered to set personal boundaries. You can discuss this topic with a confidential advisor. Even if you have engaged in such behavior yourself and don't know what to do, you can speak with a confidential advisor. Don't keep it to yourself; make an appointment. The confidential advisors are here for you.
Aggression and violence are unacceptable and punishable by law! Any form of physical or verbal aggression violates personal safety and the rights of others.
Aggression and violence are defined as any verbal or physical behavior that harasses, threatens, or attacks someone. This ranges from verbal abuse and intimidation to physical violence. It can happen to anyone, including managers, colleagues, directors, students, customers, patients, public transport passengers, and/or bystanders. Aggression and violence are never permitted, and we want everyone to feel safe here.
Are you dealing with or witnessing aggression and violence? Please contact the police, your manager, the board, or a confidential advisor to share your story and explore potential next steps.
When power displays and/or abuse of power occur within an organization or team, it can be an isolated incident or a recurring pattern. This behavior can make you feel like you don't matter or make you afraid to speak up.
Our standard is a culture of open communication. If you are experiencing or witnessing displays of power or abuse of power, please contact a confidential advisor. You can also reach out if you have exhibited this behavior yourself and would like to talk about it.
By the end of a reporting process, a lot has often happened. Even if the report has been handled carefully, the effects can be long-lasting.
We believe it is important that everyone involved can move forward in a healthy and positive way. We understand that this takes time; it is a period that requires attention for the reporter, the accused, and those around them.
We do everything we can to ensure a smooth return to work. We focus on restoring trust, collegiality, and job satisfaction, as well as rehabilitation where necessary, possible, and desired.

Integrity means being honest, sincere, and no bribery. This means that there is mutual trust and ethical action.
Integrity issues are violations of ethical conduct, such as theft, fraud, conflict of interest and/or wrongdoing. There is an abuse when the social interest is at stake, such as a threat to public health, danger to the safety of people, the risk of environmental degradation or violation of the law.
We want a socially safe workplace for everyone and take responsibility for our environment.
Do you suspect a violation of integrity or wrongdoing? Then talk to your manager or the highest governing body within the organization. You can also contact an external confidential advisor from VP-Nederland or report it to our hotline.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you discuss with an external confidential advisor is confidential. You decide what you want to share and what happens. You can read what to expect in the FAQ.
No. Your contact with the external confidential advisor is completely confidential and goes directly via VP-Nederland. Your manager or supervisor will not be informed about this. Only if you want to do so and agree, can we work with you to see if and how a next step may be taken.
If there are several external confidential advisor available, you can choose who you feel comfortable with. The advisors introduce themselves on the basis of a photo, proposal video and proposal text on the web page and in the VP app. This way, you can experience who you have the best click with and feel safest. You can also get acquainted without obligation, without having to share everything right away.
That depends on your needs, but on average, a conversation takes between 45 and 90 minutes. Some people need one conversation, others need multiple contact moments. There is no fixed number: you decide what you need, in consultation with the external confidential advisor.
The advisor is mainly there for unwanted behavior, bullying, (sexual) harassment, violence and aggression, discrimination, issues where you feel tense, integrity violations or if abuse is suspected. This usually does not include issues such as employment conditions, performance reviews, or conflicts about working hours — it's better to contact your manager, HR or a mediator for that. Do you have doubts? Feel free to contact us and, together with a counselor, you will see what is appropriate for you.
Yes, definitely. The advisor is also there for you if you are accused of something, or if you feel that you are being looked at unfairly. You can tell your story, ask questions and seek support. The counselor does not judge, but helps you to gain clarity. For this purpose, we have appointed separate counselors. You can contact VP-Nederland for this
Yes, you're in control. The external confidential advisor listens to your story, asks questions when necessary, and helps you explore your options. Nothing happens without your consent. You decide whether you want to take further steps — and if so, which ones.
We'll try to answer your message within half an hour. On weekdays, we are available between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., and on weekends and holidays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You will receive a notification in the VP app as soon as the advisor has responded. You can often continue chatting live immediately afterwards. We do our best to always respond as quickly as possible.
You can contact a advisor from VP-Nederland 7 days a week if you're having trouble discussing something that you don't just want to discuss with a colleague, manager or HR. Think about situations where you feel unsafe, unsure about what happened, or just need someone to spar with. There is no barrier: even if you're not sure if something is “serious enough” yet — you're welcome to tell your story.
Only if that's what you want. A advisor does not take action without your permission. You discuss what you need together: maybe you just want to tell your story, maybe you want help with a conversation, or you're still thinking about taking the next step. You set the pace. The exception is when there is a threat to people, the environment or the organization or counselor in need of conscience.
The internal advisor is a colleague within the organization who has been assigned the task of advisor. This person knows the organization, culture and people well. This can help you quickly understand your situation. An external advisor works independently of the organization and is specially hired to have confidential conversations. This can be nice if you prefer to talk to someone who has a little more distance from the workplace. Both advisors have the same duty of confidentiality.
It's courageous to face that. You can safely discuss with the advisor what you want with it. You don't have to do it alone. The advisor can help you think about recovery, apologies, or guidance. The conversation is confidential and without judgment.
No, your employer does not know that you are using the VP App. If you download the App to your work phone, your employer may be able to see that you installed the App, but never what messages were exchanged. The content of your conversations is completely private and only visible to you and the advisor. If you want complete privacy, it's best to download the App to your private phone.
No, behind the chat there is always a real advisor or counselor from VP-Nederland. Even if your organization has an internal advisor, you always chat with a advisor from VP-Nederland. So you never chat with a robot or someone from your organization. If you want, you can also chat anonymously.
You can go to the chat with any work-related problem or feeling. Whether it's something small that bothers you, an unpleasant situation at work, or a suspicion of something that's not right — you don't have to be left alone. The advisor at VP-Nederland are there to listen to you and help you, without judgment.
